u-planner brings together Latin American educational leaders to promote strong performance in Higher Education

“We are putting together an ecosystem that will unite universities, partners and individuals whose shared goal is excellence in education. Currently in its fifth year, this event constitutes another step towards achieving this objective,” announced Juan Pablo Mena, u-planner CEO.

u-planner, together with Microsoft and Laspau, which is affiliated with Harvard University, assembled leading figures from the world of education to attend the High Performance in Higher Education summit, held between March 27 and 29, 2019. Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology opened their doors to around fifty presidents and vice-presidents from prestigious universities around Latin America, among them the Aliat Universidades network, Mexico; Universidad Anáhuac Mexico; Universidad Cooperativa de Colombia; Universidad Francisco de Vitoria, Spain; Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Paraná; and DUOC UC, Chile.

Topics covered at the event included infrastructure optimization, better learning, assessment and results analysis, and the challenge posed by increases in the coverage and diversity of the education system. Among the delegates were renowned figures such as Eric Mazur, Dean of Applied Physics at Harvard University; Tamara Brenner, executive director of the Derek Bok Center for Teaching and Learning at Harvard; and Richard K. Miller, president of Franklin Olin College of Engineering, all of whom offered insights into their experiences of implementing Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence as part of the academic management of their institutions.

Speaking at the event, Eric Mazur remarked "it is particularly valuable to hear from and share with leaders of universities and organizations working on a day-to-day basis to strengthen education. I have had the opportunity to spend time in several Latin American countries and it is always satisfying to discover the innovations they are making and to appreciate their openness to ongoing learning.”

Two days of presentations and a tour of the Harvard University campus were complemented by a day focused on exchange of experiences, best practices, and solutions for effective higher education management.
